Is it worth it to customize your weapons?
Is it true you cant salvage a weapon after its customized? If you have a Max damage purple weapon, it seems like it wouldnt be worth it to customize it, because then you couldnt salvage it to get any rune's or sell it to someone else. Do you always just get the 20% extra damage when getting your weapon customized at the weapons crafter? Maybe it would be worth it if thats the case? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Just wanted to see if i'm understanding this correctly. Thanks guys.

If you customized it you get + 20 % but you can only wield it then .After you have custmozied it you can still salvage it but if you got 2 bonusses ( sundering and fortitude or other things) you can get 1 of the 2 bonusses , Or materials so its a 1/3 change you get the item you want to salvage from the weapon

1. You can salvage a weapon after you customize it.
2. You can sell an item to the merchant after you customize it. 3. You can upgrade an item with a pommel or hilt (or whatever upgrades it allows) after you customize it. 4. You cannot sell an item to another player after you customize it. So, in the end, you should customize any weapon you plan on using UNLESS you plan on selling that weapon to another person. Note that you cannot salvage a collector or quest reward weapon.
If it is a weapon you are going to keep and use then definitely customize it. |

Collectors and Quests not being able to be salvaged is an IMPORTANT NOTE.
Example: If you buy that 50k Hale Staff Head and stick it on your collectors Blood Staff with 20/20 - You can never get that Hale Head back so you BETTER be in love with that staff. |

One thing that has struck me since the beginning of the game is that players will pay big bucks (big gold, grin) to get a weapon with an inherent 15^50 mod. That same player will avoid customizing the weapon, even though that adds 20% damage ... a significant amount more than the 15% that makes the weapon so valuable.
I understand why a player would do that, of course, since it may be that they'll find a weapon that they like even more and want to reserve the right to sell the weapon. Here's what I would suggest. Customize a weapon that is less expensive ... maybe with a 13^50, or 13% enhanced or in stance ... picking the type that suits you best. You'll buy that weapon cheaply or, better yet, probably will find one. Your 13% weapon with the 20% damage added from customization will be much more powerfly than that uber - and expensive - 15^50 that went for megabucks. Then, as you find or acquire more perfect weapons, sell them and keep the one you've customized. |

One last quick question. Do you get anything good if you salvage a shield? I have a purple wooden buckler (I know, not very impressive). I havent identified it yet, but if i'm understanding this correctly I cant get a rune or anything good from it. Most likely only wood planks??? Thanks again everyone for your replies. This forum rocks!

I believe you would only get crafting materials when salvaging a shield and not the mod.

I think if its a sword or other war weapon where you need big points in melee or a bow for that matter, then customising can make a big differance.
Personally though (as an example) I wouldnt customise any of my staffs because the damage increase would not be so great. Also casters tend to mess around with other caster 2nd's so they might need that customised staff one day for another profession. |

Shield mods are "Built in" and not salvageable. All you'll get from shields is crafting materials. (Rumor is that A-net's working on it)
